"Books live. Books endure. Books are a gift to civilization."

- Center for American Places

We have a nascent book publishing program with the goal of developing and producing books of lasting value on creative, interdisciplinary approaches to land use planning and social issues. While the Islands Institute is primarily a web-based organization for dialogue, education and research, we recognize that books are vitally important. Books are secret agents of a possible future; they empower us to imagine. The book Art and Survival: Patricia Johanson's Environmental Projects was a founding project for the Islands Institute.
