II 601: Art and Survival 3 credits This course empowers participants to use art in new ways, generating creative solutions for environmental, social and economic problems. Participants experiment with applying resources, approaches and key concepts in an emerging field of interdisciplinary practice to issues in their home communities. With the support of the instructor and the Islands Institute community, they develop enjoyable, effective projects with personal and real-world relevance. |

II 602: Building Better Communities 3 credits How do we make community work joyful and sustaining? In this course, participants acquire fresh tools for community art, activism, intervention and leadership. They experiment with using innovative research methods and creative projects for social, economic and environmental goals. They discover how art strategies can enhance habitat and generate economic opportunity, while developing enjoyable projects with personal and real-world relevance.

II 750: Foundational Independent Study 3 credits Earn credit towards your diploma while you help to build the Islands Institute. Study plan should include the production of materials for deposit in the Islands Institute Library. For advanced students only. Study plan must be approved by society administrator and your teacher.
