Artist
Diana Lynn Thompson
of Salt Spring Island uses objects from nature collected in
enormous quantities to produce artworks that are both visually
dramatic and immediately reflective of the human-nature
relationship. Thompson utilises the diversity and sensuousness of
the natural world in ways that balance human agendas. She lessens
the split between human and nature by integrating both into her
work.
Thompson has exhibited widely across North America
and elsewhere, including a semi-permanent stone piece, Meander,
in Austria. Built in a disturbed area near a large dam, Thompson’s
Meander appears as a discreet handwritten mark on a scraped
and scoured basin.
In an artist’s statement
Thompson writes, “In all my work, before anything else, my
intention is to do no harm. The art is in the care, reverence and
attention I give to all that surrounds me.”
Thompson created Spill, a site-specific work for the
original show at the Herndon Gallery, documented in this
online exhibit.
