Deborah Yaffe creates sensitive and delicate sculptures from a combination of natural materials, mixed threads, and other recycled fibres. Through the mixing of materials, her sculptures weave together the human and non-human worlds, challenging us to reconsider how those worlds connect. Yaffe has several works on display in this exhibition, each of which weaves materials in her characteristic way. The tiny bits of natural fibre in each piece call out attention to the gorgeous detail in nature, and bring the viewer into a rich and intimate relationship with the materials themselves. The sculptures are tactile, intriguing and intricate. They call on us to recognize the network of relationships that sustain us, binding us to each other and to the natural world.
